Three takeaways from Jets’ preseason opener win against Packers

Here are three takeaways from the Jets’ 30-10 win over the Packers on Saturday night in Green Bay.

1. You can see the makings of a strong run game with the Jets. The offensive line opened up some nice holes, and the Jets got all three running backs involved.

Braelon Allen looks so explosive; it’s going to be hard to keep him off the field this year.

2. The Jets might actually throw to their tight ends and a fullback this year. Andrew Beck had two catches for 36 yards on the first series, and he can provide versatility as a fullback and an extra tight end.

Tight end Stone Smartt scored a touchdown in the second half on a well-designed play.

3. Sauce Gardner has had a strong training camp, and he continued to show that last night in limited action.

He had a nice tackle — something that was an issue last year — and good coverage on two plays. He did pick up a pass interference penalty, but overall, it was a good night.
