Oakland police investigating report man was kidnapped and locked in dog cage

OAKLAND — Police here are investigating claims that a woman kidnapped a man and locked him in a dog cage for hours.

The alleged incident was reported to police in late June as a kidnapping for ransom scenario. Authorities say the victim, a man in his 20s, was assaulted, dragged into a car, and taken to an Oakland residence where he was locked in a cage for several hours.

The woman allegedly set him free after he turned over bank account information. Authorities say it’s unclear if she was ultimately able to access the account.

No arrests have been announced. The suspect, a woman in her 20s with a prior robbery conviction, has not been charged in connection with the incident, court records show.
