Girl, 1, found dead in apparent drowning at NYC day care pool while caretaker was preoccupied cooking: cops, sources

A 1-year-old girl apparently drowned in the pool of a Bronx day care while her caretaker was preoccupied with cooking, cops and law enforcement sources said.

Police found the tot unconscious and unresponsive in the pool outside the home-run day care on Story Avenue near Olmstead Avenue in Castle Hill when they responded to a 911 call around 12:50 p.m. Friday, according to authorities and sources.

The baby was in the care of a 47-year-old woman who had been cooking for about 20 minutes when she realized she hadn’t seen the little girl, the sources said.
