SAN JOSE — A man was arrested in the South Bay this week on charges that he arranged a $120,000 methamphetamine deal with a person who was secretly working for the DEA, court records show.
John Van Vo faces charges in New Jersey of conspiracy to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine, which carries a minimum of 10 years in prison and a maximum of life. Vo appeared in federal court in San Jose before a judge formally transferred his case to New Jersey, but allowed Vo to be out of custody for now.
The criminal complaint alleges that Vo arranged to purchase approximately 200 pounds of methamphetamine for $120,000 from a confidential DEA source, who isn’t named. The complaint says Vo requested video or pictures of the drugs before completing the sale and remarked they were “nice and chunky” and better than “the Korean stuff” his associates were getting.
The plan was to smuggle the drugs out of the United States to a foreign country, prosecutors allege. The criminal complaint doesn’t specify which country.
